Glass M o s a i c  Art

Welcome!  Thank you for visiting my website.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I am hunkered down in my studio taking advantage of the early sunsets that leave my spirit eager to create my own sunshine.  Working with glass for me is like working with a poor man's diamonds.  The shattered tempered glass sparkles and brings a smile as I place each piece carefully in my creation.

For those of you who are new to my art, I am schooled in traditional mosaic art forms.  In time I found myself limited by the tile colors available and sought a way to attain fluid colors that melt into each other.  Working with recycled materials, I collect discarded sliding glass doors and plate glass, take a hammer to them and create clear, colorless crash-glass tiles for my distinctive art.  During the process of painting on wooden or glass substrates with vivid watercolors or acrylic the piece begins to take on its new life.  Tempered glass pieces are then affixed to the work to create texture and complexity.  Collage is often incorporated into my art.

I care deeply about the mending process of seemingly damaged goods – the homeless, the grief-stricken, children in need.  I believe my art illustrates that if given a little encouragement and loving kindness, what is often tossed away as damaged can be crafted into something beautiful.  I approach my work with intention; creating beauty and wholeness.

My work is held in private collections across the United States.
