Although schooled in traditional mosaic art forms, Ms. De Soto currently works primarily with plate and tempered glass – “crash glass.”  The glass she uses is recycled from old windows and sliding glass doors.  The shattered glass pieces form their own unique mosaic as they fall to the ground.  These colorless pieces are put together like a jigsaw puzzle.  The strong sense of color comes from Ms. De Soto’s painted wooden surface below the glass.  Collage is often incorporated into her pieces. 

Ms. De Soto cares deeply about the mending process of seemingly damaged goods – the homeless, the grief-stricken, children in need.  Her art illustrates that if given a little encouragement and loving kindness, what is often tossed away as damaged can be crafted into something beautiful.  Ms. De Soto approaches her work with intention, creating beauty and wholeness.
